Baby Love

Baby Love

By Cathy Collar

Go to sleep little baby.
Go to sleep my baby love.
Go to sleep my little baby.
Go to dreamland baby love.

Dream of gumdrops and lollipops
And sugar cane treats.
Dream of all that is good and gentle and sweet.

Dream of white sugar castles.

Your the princess of course.
And your prince comes to get you

On a white hobby horse

Dream of lullaby songs
And plush baby toys.
Dream of all of the things
That brings baby’s joys.
Dream of all of the things
That you’d like to be.
Yes, dreams can come true, love
For you and for me.

Go to sleep little baby.
Go to sleep my baby love.
Go to sleep little baby.
Go to dreamland baby love.

The Clock

The Clock
By Cathy Collar

Tic Tock - Tic Tock ---
The room deadly silent, except for the clock.
She sat there rigid, a statue of stone,
Feeling so helplessly, lost and alone.

Tic Tock - Tic Tock ---
Each second was precious. She looked at the clock.
The thoughts in her head, swirled round and round.
A plan, some plan had to be found!

Tic Tock- Tic Tock---
The door was heavy and barred with a lock.
She was a prisoner in her own home.
Her father not letting let her voice be known.

Tic Tock- Tic Tock---
Oh, the sound of that stupid clock !
It was ticking and tocking his life away !
For today was his judgment day.

Tic Tock- Tic Tock---
“It’s all your fault !” mocked the clock.
She must get free or he would die !
For she was his only alibi.

Tic Tock - Tic Tock ---
“You have one hour,” laughed the clock.
Her heart would surely burst with pain.
He’d give his life to save her name !

Tic Tock - Tic Tock ---
You won’t beat me you retched clock !
She grabbed the clock as it’s face laughed,
“I’ve driven you insane at last !”

Whirling it burst through the window pane.
As feet crunched glass, she felt no pain.
She paused at the clock, it made no sound.
It’s ornate pieces scattered round.

Your Tic - Tocking  has ceased to be
No more will you torment me.
And such sweet revenge this be
For you are the one who set me free! ”

Her eyes ablaze with insanity.
Her only thought to see him free.
With feet sticky wet with blood,
She sped toward town to save her love.

To Steal A Heart

To Steal A Heart
By Cathy Collar

The room was bathed in moonlight
As through the door he crept
Into the inns small quaint room
Where the Dark Haired Beauty Slept.
T’was along the roadside,
His first glimpse received.
It brought a pounding to his heart,
A weakness to his knees.
His first plan was to rob her,
Her coach expressed her wealth.
Instead, his heart she stole from him,
He could not help himself.
But nay, she was a lady.
Far above the likes of him.
He gazed at her in slumber,
Through the window light so dim.
A Highwayman, a Robber,
That’s what he was, a Rake.
He should leave her room this instant,
For his own heart’s sake.
As he swiftly turned to leave,
His cloak caressed her face.
She stirred and shifted in her bed
Suddenly awake!
She saw him in the shadows.
Her heart leapt to her throat.
Somehow she found her voice,
As she softly spoke.
Please do not harm me sir,
For I am truly unarmed.
Take what you want of purse and jewel
But please leave me unharmed.
Nay, tis not your Jewelry,
Or your purse that is at stake.
Tis you my dark haired beauty,
That I have come to take.
What he saw in the moonlight,
Was not fear in her eyes.
She knew panic would not help
She must stay calm and wise.
You flatter me, my dear sir
Place me above my jewels.
My rubies, my emeralds,
And my exquisite pearls.
Oh yes, though I must confess,
Your pearls are quite exquisite.
They were not and are not now
The purpose for my visit.
Sir what you plan to take,
Will give you no pleasure.
Tis that which only hold dear
And will always treasure.
If you are a master thief,
And skilled at your art,
And if you must steal from me,
Then let it be my heart.
A Red Black Rose appeared,
From where she could not tell.
It’s fragrance unlike any
She had ever smelled.
It mingled with his musky scent,
She felt her heart surrender.
As his firm lips captured hers,
A kiss to be remembered.
Awaking to the morning light
The night was such a blur.
Was it a dream, had he been there,
She could not know for sure.
As questions wandered in her head,
The Red Black Rose she spied.
On it a satin ribbon,
Where a small note was tied.
Breathing the heady fragrance,
As the note she read.
She was not sure if she were pleased,
Or sad by what it said.

To my Dark Haired Beauty,
Whom I may no more see,
Know this; I did not steal from you,
Anymore  than you from me.
Let the Black Red Rose remind you,
Though we be worlds apart.
We will always hold the treasure,
Of each others Heart.

Fickle Weather

Fickle Weather

February looked around and said "What's going on?
I peeked out side my door and the sun was shining strong? "
said January with a shrug,"I I had a bought of Flu, and
the winter wind made me sneeze. What was I to Do?"
"You just rest ," said loving Feb. "and go put on a sweater.
I will start my month off with snow and colder weather!"

January, finally well, got out of his bed. He stepped outside
looked left and right and then he scratched his head.
Dear Feb, “he asked, “what’s going on? I thought you
fixed the weather?  “I caught your bug!“ said irate Feb, “
Now go get me a sweater!”

Thoughts By Cathy ~ Blossom

Blossom Where You're Planted
By Cathy Collar

This Holiday Season, along with all of the revelry and mayhem that comes with Thanksgiving, Christmas and the beginning of the New Year came a very special gift tucked inside a very sad moment. Right before Christmas one of my husbands’ cousins passed away. She and my husband were not close, her family having moved far away from his, but she was family. When we found out that her funeral would be held in her parent’s hometown just a few miles away from us, we knew we must attend.
The service was very small and personal. We suspected her family had probably given her a larger memorial service in their hometown. After the beautiful music and eulogy, the preacher came to the part of the funeral that to me is always the most important. The life and family memories shared by her loved ones.
I sat there expecting the same routine; hearing what a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend she had been. Then it happened. This person that I had only met a few times in my life made an impact on my life that I never expected. Her family shared her favorite saying: four little words that I plan to implement to the best of my ability for the rest of my life here on earth.

Blossom Where You’re Planted

These words were uttered to her children whenever they complained to her that life had not been fair to them. They whined that they were stuck in hopeless situations that they could not possibly climb out of without help and of course none of it was their doing. Mom place her best smile on her face and stated these words and these words only, leaving her sulking child to ponder what on earth she was talking about. Eventually they figured it out.

Blossom Where You’re Planted

The words kept repeating themselves in my mind throughout the rest of the ceremony. I began to ask myself, “What exactly did she mean? Were you just supposed to grow up and learn to deal with your situation like an adult? Quit the whining and be happy with what you have? Did she not expect them to try to better their situation?”
I must confess that my body went into automatic mode so that I said the right words to the family that I didn’t know about their loss and gave the appropriate hugs and condolences to those I faintly knew. The questions just kept forming in my mind. “What did she mean?”

  Blossom Where You’re Planted

I thought, maybe this was a saying that had been past down on my husband’s side of the family. I would ask him about it as soon as we were in the privacy of our car and headed home which I did. He had never heard the saying before, but yes it was a nice one. I could tell by his reply that he really wasn’t all that interested in it so I let it go. I would ask his mother if she had heard it before the next time we talked, since this cousin was from her side of the family.
A few days passed before I finally got to broach the question to my mother-in-law. She thought it was a very interesting saying, but one she had never heard before, so I was back to square one. What did the saying actually mean? I sort of had an idea of what I thought it meant, but wasn’t quite sure, so I did not bring the subject up again until after Christmas.
I had decided that I would discuss it with my daughters. They both have very strong opinions and are not afraid to let me know when they think I am wrong. I guess they get that from me, maybe. Anyway, a few days after Christmas I shared my new saying with both of them and asked them what they thought it meant. You can imagine my surprise to hear them not only agree with each other, but also with me on the true meaning of the statement.

Blossom Where You’re Planted

~ Make the best of every situation that you are placed into and learn from that experience. God has given you a brain and a heart. Use them both wisely and remember that he is always beside you whether you need a firm hand to help you up or a firm kick in the rear to get you going again. You can always count on him.~

So now I pass this gift on to you for the New Year. Please remember that where there is Despair; there is Hope. Where there is Sorrow; there is Laughter. And where there is God; there is Everything in Life that you will Ever Need. May your New Year be a Blessed one and be sure every day to
